The following are questions that we hear about Market Insights. If you have questions not listed here, reach out to support@encoura.org or your regional director.
How often is Market Insights data updated?
Data is added annually once we have the enrollment data needed for Market Insights we will publish a new ‘Grad Year’ to the platform. This process is scheduled to occur in February.
How is visibility calculated?
Visibility is designed to help show your share of the market by identifying students who have expressed interest in your institution. Today that includes data from the myOptions and Encourage college planning platforms as well as data from ACT indicating where students have sent official scores.
Can I access data older than 2019?
Market Insights is delivered with three years of data beginning with 2019, 2020, and 2021. As new Grad Years are added in the future, we will add to the list of available years and allow you to select the years used for comparison purposes.
How does this data compare to what I see in Class Planner®?
The data between these products should not be compared. There is data that is included and excluded in each product based on a variety of business rules so they will never be exactly the same.
How are geomarkets defined?
Market Insights uses an industry standard list of zip codes to define the geomarkets displayed.
Where does the high school profile information come from?
This information (on the HS Detail Report) comes from a variety of sources including our own internal data (from myOptions Encourage), data from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and the Private School Universe Survey (PSS). This information is updated annually as new data is published.
How do you know about my Enrolled students?
Enrolled student information is gathered by matching our known student information to data from National Student Clearinghouse (where your enrolled students are reported).
Can I access information about homeschool students?
Yes, from any of the filtered reports (Total Market, Institution Visibility, Enrollment Analysis, or Competition Analysis) you can use the High School Type filter and select Homeschool as the value. Because homeschool students don’t have a single location, you won’t find a High School detail report.
Are all students in the US included in Market Insights?
The most recent government data from NCES (2020) reports that 63% of high school graduates are college-bound (42% to four-year colleges and 20% to two-year colleges). Market Insights includes approximately 73% of high school graduates nationwide based on projections from NCES and WICHE.
